Come meet other knitters and learn from our talented teachers in a bright and comfortable setting!

Classes are limited to 8 people and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The class fee is required to reserve your space.

We need a minimum of three people for each class so, get your friends to sign up with you! You'll receive a full refund if the class is canceled or if you withdraw at least 7 days before class begins. You'll receive a 50% refund if you withdraw from the class within 7 days of it starting.

Quick Start Knitting

$24 for one 1.5-hour session
yarn for class use and needles included

This class is perfect if you want to get a little taste of knitting or as a refresher if you haven't knit in a while. You'll learn to knit, cast on, and bind off, which will allow you to get started on your first scarf.

Quick Start Crochet

$24 for one 1.5-hour session

Learn to chain, single and half double crochet, and enter the world of crochet! You'll be ready to start your first crocheted scarf or to add edgings to your knitting.

Beginning Knitting

$106 for four 2-hour sessions, yarn and needles included

Designed for absolute beginners and as a refresher for those who haven't knit in years, you'll get a solid foundation of knitting fundamentals in our beginning knitting class. Learn to cast on, knit, purl, bind off and decrease while knitting your first scarf and hat. Yarn and needles are included.

Fixing Mistakes

$20 for one 2-hour session
Sun, 2:30 to 4:30 pm: Jan 17
Sat, 12 to 2 pm: Jan 30
Sun, 12 to 2 pm: Mar 21

Knitting is much more fun when you can fix common mistakes. Learn to correct mistakes a few stitches or a few rows back and much more.

Supplies: You'll need 50 grams of white or light-colored worsted weight yarn and size 7 needles. This class has homework, which you'll receive when you register.

Finishing

$40 for two 2-hour sessions
Sat, 2:30 to 4:30 pm: Feb 6 + 13
Sun, 12 to 2 pm: Feb 21 + 28
Sun, 2:30 to 4:30 pm: Mar 21 + 28

Learn to sew together knitted fabric and to pick up stitches for edgings and button bands.

Supplies: You'll need 50 grams of white or light-colored worsted weight yarn, size 7 needles, stitch holders, and a tapestry needle. This class has homework, which you'll receive when you register.

February Lady Sweater

$60 for three 2-hour sessions
Sun, 12 to 2 pm: Jan 3, 10 + 17
Sat, 2:30 to 4:30 pm: Mar 6, 13 + 20

The February Lady Sweater is an adaptation of Elizabeth Zimmerman's Baby Sweater on Two Needles resized for adults. Knit with worsted weight yarn, it is a great introduction to both top-down and lace knitting.

Supplies: You'll need to print out and bring a copy of the free pattern and enough worsted weight yarn for your size. Please come to the first class with a garter stitch swatch approximately 4 inches square.

Toe Up Sock Techniques

$40 for two 2-hour sessions
Thu, 6 to 8 pm: Jan 7 + 14
Sun, 12 to 2 pm: Feb 7 + 14
Thu, 6 to 8 pm: Mar 18 + 25

Learn to cast on at the toe and to turn a heel for a sock knit from the toe to the cuff using the Magic Loop technique.

Koigu Sock

Supplies: You'll need a 50 gram ball of white or light-colored worsted weight yarn and a 40 inch size 7 circular needle.

Little Colonnade

$40 for two 2-hour sessions
Thu, 6 to 8 pm: Feb 4 + 11
Sun, 12 to 2 pm: Mar 7 + 14

Triangular neckerchiefs and shawls make great accessories and fantastic gifts. Little Colonnade is a perfect introduction to triangular shawls that begin at the center of the neck and to lace charts and knitting.

Supplies: You'll need 355 yards of fingering weight yarn such as Koigu KPM or Tosh Sock, a 24 inch size 4 circular needle, stitch markers, and a tapestry needle. The pattern is included in the class fee.

The Knitter's Book of Wool

We're happy to welcome author, designer, and yarn-lover Clara Parkes back to Philadelphia this month. Please join us on Friday, April 23 from 5 to 7 pm for a book signing to celebrate The Knitter's Book of Wool. Bring your copy or purchase one here for Clara to sign.

Then on Saturday, April 24 from 10 am to 1 pm, join Clara for a workshop based on her book.

The Wonders of Wool

workshop fee: $45

Join Clara Parkes for a hands-on journey into the world of wool. We'll follow this magic material as its makes its way from sheep to skein, learning all about the qualities that make wool so wonderful and varied. We'll talk about things like lanolin and luster, staple and crimp, what microns are and why they matter, why wool yarns can pill and what to do about it, and how machine-washable wool is made - and why you should always swatch your superwash yarn before embarking upon a full-sized garment. We'll pass around garments and swatches, and you'll even have a chance to swatch some of the most noteworthy breeds and blends for yourself.

Skill level: All
Skills required: If you wish to participate in the swatching exercises, a basic knowledge of casting on, knitting, and purling is required.
Materials: Please bring a few sets of your favorite needles for swatching, ideally in sizes US 6-8. They can be DPNs, circulars, straights, whatever you enjoy working the most.
Homework: None

Baby Beanie and Mittens

$40 for two 2-hour sessions

Blue Sky Alpacas Baby Beanie and Mittens set is an adorable gift for the little one in your life. And for beginning knitters, it's a great way to learn or to practice knitting in the round with double-pointed needles.

Supplies: You'll need 2 to 3 hanks of Blue Sky Melange or Sport Weight, depending on the size you wish to make, size 7 dpns, stitch markers and a tapestry needle. Pattern included in class fee.

Crochet Motifs

$20 for one 1.5-hour session
Sat, 10 to 11:30 am: Mar 6

Crochet motifs like granny squares and hexagons are fun to make and can be used for blankets and garments. You'll learn to create a few basic shapes and to sew them together.

Supplies: You'll need 100 grams of white or light colored worsted weight yarn, a size H/7 (4.5mm) crochet hook, locking stitch markers, and a tapestry needle.
